Vaughan Williams Memorial Composition Competition

To mark the 50th anniversary of the death of Vaughan Williams, Vocalis, a choir based in Harrogate, North Yorkshire in the United Kingdom is planning a Season of Memorial Concerts in June and October 2008. By his sensitive vocal writing, Vaughan Williams was able to establish a compositional style which was new and individual, whilst at the same time being firmly rooted in past choral tradition. The purpose of this competition is to provide a means for today’s composers to build on the foundation that Vaughan Williams left 50 years ago.
