Edmund Aldhouse

… was appointed Musical Director in January 2012. He began his musical training as a chorister at Manchester Cathedral, learning the piano from an early age and taking up the organ as soon as he was tall enough! He held the Organ Scholarship at Pembroke College Oxford, directing Chapel Choir, and graduated in 2001 with First Class Honours in Modern Languages. Having previously held posts at Chichester and Rochester Cathedrals, since January 2009 Edmund has been Assistant Director of Music at Ripon Cathedral, where he plays the organ for most of the daily services and works regularly with the Cathedral Choir, as well as giving popular and acclaimed recitals.

He has a particular interest in French organ music, which led him to study repertoire and improvisation with Frédéric Blanc in Paris in 2000, and inspired him to return to France in 2006 to study with François-Henri Houbart at the Conservatoire in Rueil-Malmaison, where he obtained a unanimous Premier Prix de Virtuosité in 2008.
