Highlights for 2008
Haydn & Rheinberger
Easter Saturday at
Wesley
Chapel has become a regular feature of our programme in recent
years. Our lunchtime concert
in 2008 includes performances of Haydn's Te Deum and Rheinberger's
Stabat Mater.
Vaughan Williams Memorial Events
2008 marks 50 years since the death of Ralph Vaughan Williams. We are
planning several events this year to commemorate his memory. In addition
to the concerts shown in our 2008
Diary, we are running a competition for composers.

Vocalis - choral excellence for
the Harrogate area.
In 2004, after 30 years in existence, the members of Harrogate
Chamber Singers took the opportunity to revitalise the choir with a
new name, Vocalis, and a new look that reflects a renewed focus on
sharing their enjoyment of choral music with others. Under the
directorship of Tim
Knight, the choir has been expanding the repertoire of music
that now includes contemporary as well as traditional choral music.
In addition the choir has developed a newly found taste for travel
and has been on tour to Holland as guests of Christelijk
Vocaal Ensemble Cantare and is planning future tours.
The
concerts themselves are becoming more varied in both locations and
in the mix of programme, the choir now actively seeks other musical
and artistic talent to join the concerts, creating events for the
audience that tempt them away from the box to hear real live music.
We are encouraging a more informal style to the concerts although not
at the expense of performance quality!
The choir sings mainly a capella and is equally at home in churches,
concert halls, private dinners or homes. We raise funds for
charitable organisations either by direct donations from concert
receipts or by providing music for fund raising events. |
